weight loss…….

Weight loss is something that can feel so elusive at times and usually brings about a lot of confusion and frustration. There is so much information out there on the next big diet, medication, foods to avoid or program to follow to make you hit your goals. It can be very overwhelming and daunting to know what to do and when to do it.

When we break it down to its simplest form, it comes down to science and is all about calories in and calories out. If only it was that easy though, right??? We all wish! If it was then you wouldn’t be needing nutrition coaches and you wouldn’t see such a big market for the next best thing!

Data shows that we don’t really know what it is that we are actually eating in a day. A research study showed that we UNDERESTIMATED our caloric intake by over 1,000 calories per day! Wow, that is A LOT of calories to be off by. Then, we wonder why we can’t lose the weight that we are trying so hard to lose!

If you haven’t tried tracking your food before, I highly encourage you to do so. It is a great learning opportunity to see what you are eating in a day, how it is making you feel and over time, how it is affecting your ability to lose weight or not. I encourage you to not look for just a day but look for at least a week or two. When we you are working with a nutrition coach we look not only at how you did in the day but also the week and month. The reason we do this is some days you may overeat and some days you may undereat and we want to see what that balance is over time.

Once you start tracking, please do not use the weight loss feature if you are using MyFitness Pal, the calorie deficit they are using is much too large to be healthy or sustainable for very long. Most the clients that come to me using this end up going through binging and overeating at night or on the weekends because of their calorie deficit being too large;). If you are new to collecting data I encourage you to start with just being consistent and seeing what you find out!
