Don’t Miss those low hanging fruiT!
So often once we set those new goals, start a new workout routine, commit to losing those last couple of pounds, and we GO ALL IN! Totally nothing wrong with that, I love the energy and commitment. However, we often overlook the easier and sometimes more important habits that will get you farther, faster. And often happier, more energized and overall just feeling much better!
#1 Sleep. Yes sleep is by far the most important step. If you skip this you will significantly hinder your ability to hit your goals whether that is weight loss, asthetic, or performance based. Did you know that you lose weight when you sleep? Yep, you totally can. However……you actually need to be sleeping enough to get those benefits. You need a MINIMUM of 6 hours but ideally 7-8 hours per night. Sleeping less than this will affect all the things, (hormones, cortisol, inflammation, energy, recovery), literally all the things here!
#2 Movement. Working out for 3o to 60 minutes or even more is amazing!! But what is happening those other 23 hours per day? Working hard for an hour won’t make up for being sedentary the rest of the time. Staying active throughout the day will help. Park farther from work, the store or your home. Walk on the treadmill while you watch your favorite tv show, scroll social media or read your book. Set a goal of 8,000-10,000 steps per day and you will have no problem staying moving throughout the day.
#3 Nutrition. I know I don’t have to tell you this one. If you have been with me for awhile I know you have heard me tell you that you can’t out train a bad diet. Focus on protein, veggies, fruits and healthy carbs. Limit those processed foods, eating out, alcohol and empty calories. Little changes add up over time and make a huge difference!
